  • KEYNOTE SPEAKER: FBI Victim Specialist Carmen Kucinich
    • Carmen Kucinich is a Masters Level Licensed Professional Counselor with the State of Michigan.  Ms. Kucinich has been a Victim Specialist with the Federal Bureau of Investigation since 2005 and has worked with crime victims for over 20 years.  Prior to the FBI her work began as a caseworker with the Michigan Indian Child Welfare Agency followed by Safe Harbor Children’s Advocacy Center where she worked as a forensic interviewer and therapist for sexually abused children and children that witnessed domestic violence.  Ms. Kucinich has testified as an expert witness in the areas of the Native American Culture, forensic interviewing and children’s counseling.  Ms. Kucinich is active in working on the FBI’s West Michigan Based Child Exploitation (WEBCHEX) Task Force, formed in 2014 and is a current member the FBI’s Victim Services Response Team (VSRT); responding to Mass Casualties as requested, throughout the United States.
  • PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION:
    • This presentation details the FBI’s Victim Services Division’s (VSD) Victim Assistance Program, to include VSD’s assets and the specific duties of my position as an FBI Victim Specialist.  The presentation continues to detail the composition and response of our Victim Assistance Rapid Deployment Team, with a detailed focus on the victim assistance response the Las Vegas Rout 91 Harvest Festival Shooting in October of 2017.  I also provide some examples of victim needs and victim assistance from other deployments such at the San Bernardino IRC shooting and the Orlando Pulse Nightclub Shooting.  The victim assistance response looks at our detailed work with victims, Family Assistance Centers and Hospitals and provides some things to consider looking ahead to community response and recovery more long term.

OUR CHAPTER BOARD HAS DECIDED TO TRY SOME NEW MEETING IDEAS IN THE COMING YEAR. WE WILL CONTINUE TO HOLD REGULAR MONTHLY MEETINGS, BUT ARE GOING TO HAVE A HOSTED LUNCHEON MEETING REPLACE ONE OF THE BREAKFAST MEETINGS EACH QUARTER. THESE EXPANDED EVENTS WILL FEATURE KEYNOTE SPEAKERS OR PRESENTATIONS OF INTEREST AND RELEVANCE TO OUR MEMBERSHIP. THERE WILL BE NO DUES COLLECTED AT THESE MEETINGS, AND GUESTS ARE WELCOME.

OUR NOVEMBER MEETING WAS OUR LAST AT THEO & STACY'S IN PORTAGE.  THE RESTAURANT HAS BEEN SOLD, EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 27TH. WE PRESENTED PHYLLIS WITH A GIFT AND A CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION FOR THEIR YEARS OF HOSTING US! GREAT MEETING, AND THANKS TO ALL WHO ATTENDED.

WE ARE SEEKING A NEW VENUE FOR OUR REGULAR MEETINGS, AND WE WELCOME ANY INPUT. WE WILL TOUCH BASE WITH THE NEW OWNERS OF THE THEO & STACY'S LOCATION ONCE THEY GET THEIR RENOVATIONS  COMPLETED, BUT WE WANT TO KEEP OUR OPTIONS OPEN.
